Teacher’s perspective on the Principles of Language Arts Instruction
After discussing the seven principles of language arts instruction with a grade 4 teacher, she stated that she belief that all the principles can be a great help to both teachers and learners both inside and outside the classroom.
She stated that she would normally use principle 1,2,5 and 6, recently she has learnt about principle 3 – the strands from the new and enhance curriculum that the ministry of education had implemented. She rarely used principle 4, which she would start using more in the future. Principle 7 was new to her, she never really taught about having pupils explore different types of literature, she had them read whatever they wanted to or what is in the curriculum. After discussing this principle and highlighting the benefits she would start incorporating it in her classroom.
She further stated that these principles help to guide her when planning and delivering her lesson especially when catering for the different types of learners, it also improves the communication of learners and the learning outcomes.
