The principles that I have never considered in my teaching experience.

Principles 7

Language arts instruction should center on quality literature.

Huck (1992) defined literature as the imaginative shaping of life and thought into the forms and structures of language….(through the subjects of) human conditions; feelings, thought, and insights.

As language art teacher we should expose our pupils to various forms of literature such as comic strips, newspaper, poems, stories, magazines etc., these will help pupils discover new knowledge, transform their understanding of world and view of reality.

I can incorporate this principle into my classroom by encouraging pupils to read, having various forms of literature in my reading area and having 10 minutes reading sessions where pupils choose different reading materials and read for fun.

This will help build their vocabulary, help them develop reasoning skills, problem solving skill and think critically.  This is a great principle that will be implemented in my language art classroom.
